There is nothing worse than running out of ideas, am I right? And funnily enough, I’m writing this blog post because I’m all out of blog post ideas too. It happens. We all hit this stage every now and again, as a creative, not knowing what to do next. Well, I thought I’d write this blog post, not only for myself but everyone else out there who is in a creative block, not knowing what to post yet. This isn’t your 101 blog post ideas-type-content, this is more about where to find ideas and how to seek inspiration for more unique content.
Who doesn’t love Pinterest? It is such a great search engine and it’s so blogger friendly. I have a whole board dedicated to blog post ideas which I will link here, and I really encourage you to make one too. It doesn’t even have to be for blog posts. Any form of inspiration you want, fashion, interiors, food, fitness, check out Pinterest. You really can find so many ideas on Pinterest, and you can search for your niche to make it even more tailored to you.
RECOGNISE YOUR YOUR FAVOURITE CONTENT TO READ
Look on the flip side of blogging, the reader. What do you like to read? Chatty posts? Q&As? Quick tips? and how can you create content like that for your own blog. Say you love to read chatty, think pieces. You can then start to brainstorm your own content that fits what you like to read. Likelihood is, you’ll enjoy creating it too.
TAKE A YOUTUBE IDEA AND TURN IT INTO A BLOG POST
I love doing this. Youtube is such a big source of inspiration for me. Find a video you’ve loved watching or one that is super on trend right now, and think of how you can make it into a blog post. For example, most of my fashion blog posts are inspired by Youtube videos. Styling ideas, DIYs, upcycled ideas, all of which I watch myself on Youtube and wanted to replicate on my blog.
WHAT INSTAGRAM CAPTIONS HAVE YOU FOUND INTERESTING OR ENGAGING?
I don’t think a lot of people think to look at Instagram captions, but ones that are perhaps more personal or useful, think about if that could be a blog post. Obviously not everyone writes the most meaningful captions, myself included, but for the people that do, seek inspiration from them. Perhaps you read a personal caption about someone’s current struggles. Take strength and inspiration from that to write about your own struggles on your blog.
WHAT ARE YOUR MOST POPULAR BLOG POSTS?
What do your readers actually like to see? What posts of yours have the most views? Personally for me, my photography posts always seem to perform the best. Don’t ask me why, because I don’t know, but if that is what people enjoy, then think of new ideas similar to those and create them.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE POSTS TO WRITE AND PHOTOGRAPH?
Personally, photography is a huge part of my blog. It is the main creative outlet for me and so if I can’t photograph it, then I won’t write about it. I love having my own photos and displaying them on each post. So when it comes to generating more ideas for the blog, I think about the things I could photograph and whether that could fit into it’s own post or link with something relevant to speak about.
BLOG POST IDEAS BLOG POSTS
Well that is a mouthful, but yes, read other people’s blog post ideas over on their blog. I haven’t ever written one myself actually, but I know loads of people have. What I like to do when I read these blog posts is to write down in my notebook any that really stand out to me, or inspire me. Then whenever I need inspiration, I can just look into my notebook and find some right there.
WHAT IS CURRENTLY TRENDING RIGHT NOW?
What are people talking about, using, wearing, doing. It could be anything, but is it on trend. And could you turn that trend into a blog post? For example, obviously with it now being back to school season, then that content is going to be trending. People will be searching for that more than ever, so if that is your niche or something you want to speak about, there is no better time than when it’s trending.
IS THERE A PROBLEM PEOPLE ARE LOOKING TO SOLVE?
Very similar to the trends point I’ve just made. But what are people struggling with right now? For example, when lockdown begun in the UK, people wanted tips on ‘how to work from home’, ‘how to be productive at home’ or ‘work from home outfit ideas’. And that is to just name a few. But people are struggling with things all the time. How to plan for ____, how to style ___, where to by the best ____. So think about what you know and what you could help people solve.
ASK YOUR AUDIENCE
Ending on the simplest and most effective point in this post and that is to just simply ask. Ask on Insta, Twitter, or directly on your blog. Your readers will tend to suggest something they’ve always wanted to see from you. It’s a great way to bring in new ideas, generate some creative solutions and to also please your audience.
Hopefully this post has provided a little inspiration for how to seek your blog post inspiration. I know I’m definitely going to take my advice to generate some new ideas, are you?
Lots of love,
