I know I’d love to go back in time. Relive the highlights and also bounce back from the low parts. I relive negative moments in my life and imagine what would have happened if I had acted differently. So in this post, I thought I’d go back to my younger self and list 12 things I wish I was told. I realise that I am still pretty young but I have developed a lot in the last year. These are the things I wish I had known when going into high school, or even earlier, or even just a year ago.

1. Stop trying to please everyone

Not everyone is going to like you and that is okay. Don’t try and change to make them happy. Stay true to who you are and the right people will love and support you.

2. Sometimes it is best to keep your mouth shut

Don’t let people belittle you but sometimes it is best to stay quiet. Stay out of the drama, don’t make assumptions, and use your voice to spread positivity. Otherwise, your mouth will get you into trouble.

3. You are not a disappointment

There are people that love you and you could never disappoint them. Stop focusing on letting people down and put that energy into becoming the best version of yourself.

4. Do what’s right for you

Sometimes you need to be selfish and do what is right for you. Don’t feel pressure from others. Listen to yourself, your body, your emotions, your morals. Everything you do, you should do for you.

5. Stop feeling guilty

You don’t need to be guilty about every little thing. Everyone makes mistakes, but it is how you react to it. Don’t dwell on guilt, move past it, and bounce back.

6. Tell people how you really feel

Open up now, because you are going to look back and wish you had. Be honest from the start. Tell people when you’re upset and how they can help. Don’t bottle it in because it is only going to resurface on a larger scale.

12 things I'd say to my younger self

7. Dream big

Don’t be afraid to share your dreams. Tell people, manifest them, write the down. Go big or go home. And if someone tells you that can’t be achieved, instead of pushing your dream to the sideline, get inspired and motivated by it.

8. Don’t be so shy

Not everyone is out to get you. Some people want to know and understand you. Reach out and don’t wait for them to come to you. Introduce yourself and smile, you could make yourself some really amazing friends.

9. You won’t feel like this forever

The way you feel is never permanent. You are not going to feel sad, or unloved, or guilty, or unworthy forever. Soon you will find a purpose, a new light, a new inspiration and this feel right now will be the past.

10. Stop taking things so seriously

You only live once. Stop being so serious all the time. Smile and crack a joke. The world doesn’t hate you and you should just do some things for fun.

11. Make more memories

You’re going to look back and wish you had captured more memories. Don’t get all camera shy, just live in the moment and create those memories with the ones you love.

12. Don’t cancel plans so often

It might be an anxious thing or an insecure thing but stop being so negative. Go out and have fun, stop overthinking it.

And that was 12 things I wish my younger self knew. There is so much more I could add to this post so let me know if you want a part two. But to anyone reading, I hope this either inspires you to reflect on your own past or it reminds you that things can change for the better.
