cruelty free skincare

I love skincare. Something I’ve realised with running a beauty blog is that I prefer skincare over makeup, especially when it comes to testing new products. I just think a good skincare routine is essential, whether that be for a base to your makeup, or just to make you feel good. However, I’ve had a lot of issues with my skin in the past. I used to suffer from acne and I still have some of the scaring now. But with time, I’ve become very comfortable with the imperfections on my skin. Spots don’t really bother me and I’m learning to love my freckles.

A lot of you have been so kind lately though and have been saying how nice my skin is, so this post was very requested. As I said, I still get spots, my skin isn’t clear, but I’ve learned my skin type and I know how to look after it properly. So it seemed like the perfect time to hit publish on this post.

Generally, I like to keep my skincare routine very simple. I don’t use all of these products every day, a lot of them are occasional. I’ve learned that basic skincare works a lot better for me as I’m quite lazy with it and my skin doesn’t get clogged up with loads of products.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser

Starting with cleanser. I don’t use cleanser twice a day like most people. With this cleanser, I only use it when I’m wearing makeup or I want a deep cleanse. Otherwise, I just wash my face with warm water. But this cleanser is amazing. Liz Earle is one of my favourite skincare brands of all time. It’s gentle, cruelty-free and so luxurious. Most people know them for their Cleanse & Polish, and rightly so because it’s amazing.

I find that it is so gentle on the skin. It’s got a creamy texture which makes it feel so hydrating and it removes makeup so seamlessly. I have gone through a couple of bottles of this and I don’t think I will get sick of it. It’s the cleanse I always come back to as it just seems to work for my skin.

The Body Shop Camomile Eye Makeup Remover

When I’m wearing quite heavy makeup or waterproof mascara, I always use an eye makeup remover. Most eye makeup removers really irritate my eyes, so this is the only one I use now. I have been using The Body Shop Camomile range for years now and I love it. This and their cleanser are some of my favourites. Especially this eye makeup remover though because of how gentle it is. It has never irritated my eyes and it removes even the most stubborn of waterproof mascara.

Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic

I never used to understand the point of toners, I always thought they didn’t really do much. But with this toner, I see a difference. I try to remember to use this twice a day, before moisturiser, and I love it. Paired with this next product, it’s a dream. What I’ve found with this toner that makes such a difference, is that it gives my skin such a glow. It makes my skin feel so smooth and hydrated. I’ve never had that in a toner before so I can’t see myself using anything other than this. It’s the perfect addition in my skincare routine.

Herbatica Reusable Cotton Pads

Not exactly a skincare product, but a tool that has been so important in my recent skincare routine. I’ve had these reusable cotton pads for about six months now and I am fully converted. Obviously, regular cotton pads are only single use, which isn’t good for the planet. They also tend to come in plastic packaging which is very wasteful so that is when I started looking into these. As I said, these are reusable cotton pads and they came in fully recyclable packaging. These work exactly like regular cotton pads, except when you’re done, you just pop them in the little bag they come in and wash them in the washing machine. And they’re like new again. I honestly think it’s such a cool product and it’s such a simple way to reduce your single use products and plastic packaging, as well as some money.

I’ve noticed that my skin also really agrees with these cotton pads. They are a little firmer than regular cotton pads, but I find that it helps to exfoliate my skin, so I no longer use a dedicated face scrub anymore. They are also loads bigger than cotton pads so I can remove all my eye makeup with just one pad, which is great. I honestly can’t recommend these enough and I really think people should be using these in their skincare routine too.

The Body Shop Strawberry Smoothing Facial Spray

This might seem like a bit of a weird one, but I love facial sprays. Although, I can’t lie, they don’t do much, they make my skin feel great. I love these ones from The Body Shop. I have a couple flavours from them now and I love them all. Currently though, I’m using the strawberry one.

You can actually use these for makeup or skincare, but my favourite way to use these is after toner, before moistuiser. I don’t really know why, but I just find that it gives my skin such a glow and makes my skin feel so nourished. With this, I don’t use it every single day. I try to use it once or twice a week, just as a little hydration boost.

Liz Earle Skin Repair Moistuiser

I find it so hard to find a good daily moisturiser. Most of the ones I’ve tried always seem to have something slightly wrong with it, so I’m constantly trying new ones. This one is probably one of my favourites I’ve tried and I definitely think I’m am going to be repurchasing it.

What I love about this moisturiser is how lightweight it is. A little bit goes a long way and it just sinks into the skin instantly. I hate those moisturiser that are all sticky and linger around for ages. This one is definitely not like that, it just melts into the skin and makes my skin feel so soft. I have quite dry skin and I think that this is the perfect about of hydration. It isn’t too greasy and it doesn’t dry my skin out either.

Superdrug Vitamin E Intense Moisture Cream

For night cream, I’m still on the hunt for a new one to try, but I always go back to this one. It isn’t even a night cream, but that is what I use it for. Just a very small amount each evening and it works perfectly. I love the Vitamin E range from Superdrug because of how gentle it is. It’s perfect for those of you with dry skin or sensitive skin. This Intense Moisture Cream is one of my favourites because it is so hydrating. I find that it just does the job perfectly.

Superdrug Vitamin E Eye Cream

Finally for skincare, this eye cream. I’ve only ever tried this eye cream, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I’m quite happy with how this one works. I don’t use this every night as it’s quite intense, usually I try for two or three times a week. But it is super nice to use. I find that it’s really cooling on the eyes and just helps to hydrate under my eyes. Under my eyes can get super dry, especially after wearing makeup, so this is the perfect way to just restore a bit of moisture.

If you have any skincare recommendations, I would love to hear them in the comments!
Lots of love,
Grace xx
